MINDFULNESS. A PRACTICAL GUIDE…by Mark Williams and Danny Penman
MINDFULNESS is a word that is used a lot in every day vocabulary, but what is it, what does being Mindful really mean?
Mindfulness: a practical guide to FINDING PEACE IN A FRANTIC WORLD by Mark Williams and Danny Penman aims to teach the reader about mindfulness by highlighting the many sources of stress and anxiety in the modern world.
As the title suggests, this is a practical guide to mindfulness and as such is interspersed with exercises and meditations to help you apply the learning to yourself and your life today. It also comes with a free CD of guided meditations which really is essential when one is learning to meditate. Have you tried reading a mediation script and mediating at the same time?!
Whilst the book doesn’t necessarily bring anything new to the world of mindfulness it certainly is a through explanation and teaching of what mindfulness is and how to begin practising it, so in this way it is a far cheaper option than a standard 8 week course on Mindfulness. Bear in mind that co-author Williams co-developed the widely re-known Oxford Uni 8 week course in MBCT and complimentary MSc qualification. So if you’re going to invest in any mindfulness book, this book really is the place to start.
Alternatively, if you would like to experience mindfulness personally, then you would benefit from attending one of our Velvet Evolution ‘What is Mindfulness’ 1 day Taster Workshops. To find out more about when and where the next workshops will be held simply email mindfulness@yourvelvetevolution.com
However if a book is more your style, and if you are new to mindfulness or simply curious about how mindfulness can help you find peace in a frantic world then Mindfulness by Mark Williams and Danny Penman is the book for you.

Back of the Book Blurb:
“Life can be relentless, frantic and exhausting – but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Mindfulness reveals a set of simple yet powerful practices that you can incorporate into daily life to help break the cycle of anxiety, stress, unhappiness and exhaustion. It helps promote a genuine joie de vivre; the kind of happiness that gets into your bones and allows you to meet the worst that life throws at you with new courage.”
