THE CONFIDENCE CODE by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
“Confidence is the way we meet our circumstances, whether they are wondrous and wonderful or really hard and difficult.” ~ Sharon Salzberg
My coaching book recommendation this month is…well, I guess the title says it all really – The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. This book takes a detailed and varied look at what confidence means from a woman’s perspective. How we get it, how we lose, and how society’s and our own expectations get in the way of our ability to have confidence in all aspects of our lives and loves.
What makes this book difference to many other confidence related books is that it focusses on women’s relationship with confidence. Also, it is written by non-experts. What I mean by that is that Katty and Claire are both intelligent successful people, but they are not scientists or psychologists who have dedicated their careers to studying confidence. They are journalists who have researched and gathered an insightful and holistic understanding of confidence throughout their journey in writing this book. So this book is written for the non-scientific reader…perfect!
Quoting many well respected experts throughout the book, the authors take us on a journey of feminism, competitiveness and confidence.
And so I shall leave the final word on Confidence to Sharon Salzberg once more (as quoted in The Confidence Code);
“Its almost like a wholeheartedness, where we’re not holding back. We’re not divided. We’re just going towards what’s happening. There’s an energy to it. I think that’s confidence. And it’s absolutely part of human fulfilment.“ ~ Sharon Salzberg

“The Confidence Code – The science and art of self-assurance – What women should know.”
“Confidence. We want it. We need it. But it can be maddeningly enigmatic and out of reach. The authors of the New York Times bestseller Womenomics de-construct this essential, elusive, and misunderstood quality and offer a blueprint for bringing more of it into our lives.”
