DEALING WITH FEARS
Fear is something that everyone has to deal with.
Fears can be obvious, easy to explain and even socially acceptable like heights and the dark.
Fears are also far more subtle. Whenever you have an urge not to do something, no matter how much you try to rationalise it, there will be a fear behind it. Procrastination, avoidance, arguments and judgements are all based in fear. Fear that you will achieve, that you will succeed, that you will fail, that others are bigger, brighter, prettier, better than you.
Sadly, much more of your life is based in fear than you probably realise.
In short, every limiting thought or belief you have is based in fear.
The thing with fear is, it’s not real. Very rarely is fear based in your life today. It is more than likely created in a wealth of old thoughts and feeling from your past. People who used to criticise you, hold you back, be afraid themselves and pass their fears onto you. Fears are contagious. Fears are learned. Fears are feed by us and kept alive by us.
Listening to the amazing Liz Gilbert’s – Magic Lessons podcast I heard her interview (Big Strong Magic) with the truly inspirational Brene Brown and they discussed fear and the following quote is the reason for this post…
“The thing that you are afraid has already happened. It is alive today because you are feeding it. It is now your voice.”
As you can see, fear is created and learned and then we ourselves keep it alive and feed it.
So next time you find fear, in whatever guise, creeping into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours / actions remember that you are the one feeding it so it is up to you to challenge it, stop it and change it for something positive, productive and rewarding.
