ATTITUDE…IS IT GOOD OR BAD TO HAVE ATTITUDE?
Attitude…is it a good or bad thing to have attitude?
If we say “She’s got attitude!” its rarely meant as a compliment or positive attribute. We use the word ‘attitude’ to explain someone who has opinions that we disagree with, or body language we perhaps find aggressive or intimidating. So not exactly positive. Yet in the professional world of coaching we talk endlessly about how we think and feel is integral to us being the best version of ourselves…so really this is all attitude!
The dictionary definition is; Attitude – noun; manner, disposition, feeling, position. It is also explained as ‘a position or posture of the body appropriate to or expressive of an action, emotion, etc.’
Attitude is something you can own and therefore, it is something you have to be responsible for. Only you can decide on your attitude, and whatever you decide upon will manifest itself in who you are, how you think and feel, and ultimately how others perceive you.
Your attitude can be defensive, un-trusting, skeptical, nervous or lacking in confidence. And if this is what you choose it is unlikely that you will have an enjoyable and positive experience of life or an event.
Equally, you can choose to be optimistic, solutions focussed, happily determined and open minded, and it is more likely that you will feel confident and have a positive experience.
Now all this is definitely easier said than done, and so to this end, I have added attitude to MY Velvet Evolution year of FUN as I want to take up this challenge for myself. How much of life’s struggles that I experience are done to my attitude. Am I my own undoing? Is my attitude connected closely to my injunctions and barriers; the things that run through my mind and stop me from being the best version of myself?
It is my hypothesis that attitude is integral to a persons ability to find, create and embrace fun. So this month, I will be seeking fun for free by keeping a watchful eye on my attitude.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get…so it’s time to lighten up!
I will be back at the end of the month to let you know what I have learnt.
Wishing you all and happy and confident month filled with fun!
